The official announcement on May 28, 2013, confirmed that the JSW Group had secured the rights to establish a direct-entry team for the 2013“14 I-League season in Bangalore. This initiative was to be carried out through the sports division, JSW Sports.
JSW Group formally introduced the club as "Bengaluru Football Club" on July 20 at a launch event held at the Bangalore Football Stadium, designated as the club's home venue. During the event, details such as the squad, club crest, colors, and home kit for the season were unveiled along with the official club's name and stadium announcement.
Leading the team since its inception in 2013, Chhetri boasts a rich football history, having played for major Indian clubs such as Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, JCT, and Dempo. His international experience includes stints with Sporting Kansas in the US and a brief period with Sporting Club de Portugal before joining Bengaluru. With a remarkable 150 appearances for BFC, Chhetri exhibits no signs of deceleration, indicating a sustained commitment to his impressive career.
